Gemfields, a top emerald mining company of Zambia, has collaborated with World Land Trust and Wildlife Trust of India to launch 'Emeralds for Elephants', the project that raises funds for protection of Asian elephants and tigers. The firm had organised an event under this banner in London last year. "This national heritage animal (tiger) in India is now seriously under threat since its habitat - forests - is disappearing at an alarming rate," Madhuri told reporters here today.

"Many instances of human-elephant conflict have been reported in the country. This would not have happened if elephants had their own space and humans had not cut forests for farmlands, settlements, industries, roads or railways," she maintained. Gemfields, World Land Trust and Wildlife Trust of India have collaborated with ten top Indian jewellers to create a bespoke Zambian emerald jewellery collection. The collection showcases Emerald Avighna, a Ganesha installation by ace architect and contemporary sculptor Arzan Khambatta. Proceeds from the sale of collection will be used to protect elephants and tigers. "Who could have imagined that precious green stones could raise precious funds for precious green spaces so that our national animal is secured. I am delighted to be part of this cause," the actor said.
