Madhuri Dixit is back in Mumbai, and speculations are rife about her next move. Is she in Rajshri's next film? Is she going on The Unforgettable tour with the Bachchans? Is Yash Chopra going to direct her?

In a candid chat with masala.com, Madhuri separates facts from fiction. Excerpts:

Do you feel the Padma Shri has given you a sense of completeness and work satisfaction?
Absolutely! Since Filmfare awards are for your performances, they are just for that one particular film whereas Padma Shri is given looking at your entire career graph keeping in mind one's contribution to the respective field and also the way the person has handled his or her personal life. Hence, it's certainly an achievement.

Aaja Nachle was touted as your comeback vehicle and the film was from the industry's most respected Yash Raj stable. In spite of that, it bombed. What do you think went wrong?
I don't believe in dissecting anything. It happens at times that a film doesn't work. It's not in our hands. We all worked very hard and I enjoyed every minute of it. Working with the co-stars, being on the sets... Still sometimes a film lacks something. Yet, I am very happy with ‘Aaja Nachle'.

The industry is abuzz with the news that Yash Chopra will direct you in his next...
No, so far there is nothing concrete.

As you have been in India since some time now, it is obvious the directors and producers must be queuing up to sign you. Has anybody signed you or are you going through any interesting scripts at this stage?
Yes, I have been approached with a script which I have heard but there's nothing interesting which I can give my nod to.

Having played a variety of roles, what types of character are you looking forward to portraying in films now?
Well, there are no such dream roles or ideal roles that I want to do.

Has Rajshri Productions approached you to work with Salman Khan in its film titled Prem Vivah?
The news is quite flattering. But even I am not aware whether these are just rumours or there's some truth in it.

If you are contacted for the same, will you grab the film?
I started my career in the film industry with Rajshri Productions. So there's no doubt about the fact that whenever they want me to work with them, I will reply in the affirmative.

You always say that Shah Rukh Khan is your favourite co-star. Are you looking out to work with him?
I have done a lot of films with Shah Rukh and it's obvious that I would always love to work with him again. But there are no projects in the anvil.

Shah Rukh had once said that he would like his son to get hitched to your daughter...
Well, fortunately or unfortunately, I have two sons and no daughter. So it will need an extra effort for that to happen.

Sallu was another co-star with whom you have worked a lot. Are you anxious to work with him again?
Yes, of course. As you correctly mentioned, I have done a lot of films with Salman. In any case, I am open to working with any co-star. I don't have any issues working with any of them.

Talking of Salman, you had mentioned in Koffee With Karan that he's a ‘living on the edge' actor...
There's one side of Salman which we all know - as an actor he's worked in the industry for so long... But there's also this other side of his, lesser known perhaps, that he does a lot of social work for various charities. Each individual has his own persona and his personality is like this.

Amitabh Bachchan has said that he has approached you for the Bachchans' world tour The Unforgettable. Are you going to be a part of it?

The talks are on. I will let the world know as soon as anything is finalised.

Since you were settled in the US, how will you adjust yourself to the current working scenario of the film industry?
Similarly the way I did for ‘Aaja Nachle'. I want to balance my professional and personal life. And it will be great if even the producers whom I work with help me do that.
