You were a superstar in the ’90s and the adulation continues.
It feels the same even today. Though I have been away for so many years, people still remember my films and wish to see me on the big screen.

The praises and compliments I have got for Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa are just so special.

This has been one of your longest stays in Mumbai, post your marriage. How do you sum up the experience?
My longest stay was when I came for the schedule of Aaja Nachle. But this one was filled with more activities. I did a dance show, a few ad films and have been travelling a lot as the brand ambassador for the Food Food channel. I have been constantly at something since I arrived. My husband and kids (Arin and Ryan) were also around and it was nice to see them have fun.

You got to dance on several occasions this time.
Dancing is something that comes naturally to me. So I was happiest when I got the chance to do a few dance numbers on Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa. I even got to dance with Shah Rukh Khan at one of the award functions which was one of the most memorable moments of my trip. We have shared such a wonderful working relationship in the past, but this was the first time that we performed together.

Have you been practising dance regularly back in the US?
Since last year, I have started practising Kathak again, a dance form I have specialised in. Prior to that, I did not have any time for dance with my kids growing up.

How aware are your sons, Arin and Ryan, of your stardom?
They are not really aware of my stardom as such because they are still very young. All they know is that I am a ‘famous actor’ in India. And they are happy about it.

With your kids a little grown-up now, do you see yourself taking up more offers?
Yes, certainly. I can plan my time better now. I have more time to myself which is very important when you are planning to return to movies. I have time to exercise and get back in shape. I can actually take up projects and give my 100 per cent to them.

There have been rumours of you having signed a film. Is it true?
There have been a few offers, but I haven’t finalised any so far. At this stage of my life, I am looking for something that will be fun as well as challenging. A good director and production house matter a lot too.

Was it your fondness for good food that prompted you to become the brand ambassador for the Food Food channel?
I found the concept interesting. My kids are very fond of the food channels back in the US. So I was happy that India is getting one of its own. I am also a total foodie. I love Mexican, Greek and all types of Indian food.

Do you also enjoy cooking?
Yes, I do. Back home in the US, I do all the cooking myself.

Do you catch up on new Hindi movies back in the US?
No, I don’t. I am so busy with my kids and other chores that I don’t keep track of any new releases. I hardly go to the theatres there. Only when somebody recommends a movie, I do buy a DVD and watch it.

How often do you plan to come to Mumbai now?
(Laughs) I will come again soon when I have more work in hand
