Madhuri Mania

Madhuri Dixit 'The Dhak-Dhak' girl who created waves with her dance number 'Ek Do Teen', 'Dhak-Dhak Karne Laga', 'Choli Ke Pichey' etc is now all set to woo the audience by portraying 'Chandramukhi' in Sanjay Leela Bansali's 'Devdas'. Madhuri has stolen the hearts of millions by her innocent beauty, her sensuous smile and killing looks. She was in the peak of her career when she got married creating a sudden void and doubt in the mind of her fans as to whether it was the end of her career. Madhuri is now excited about 'Devdas' and awaiting its release. According to her this is her best performance. Seasonsindia correspondent Ekta Dhupia finds out more about her career, marriage, husband and future plans.

Two years ago, when Madhuri Dixit got married film folks wondered how she would balance an overseas marriage and a career back home. Madhuri Dixit has proved that where there’s a will there is a way. After a lukewarm Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, Dixit looks forward to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas and the much talked about TV show Shubh Vivah. A lot may have changed in Madhuri’s daily routine but a lot remains the same. You enter the apartment and are relieved to discover that unlike most upper class families, who treat their livingroom as a showcase of artefacts, Dixits’ make no attempt to disguise their domesticity. It’s a hot afternoon. Madhuri orders a chilled nimbu pani for both of us, switches off her mobile phone and we’re ready for serious conversation.

Ever since Ritesh Deshmukh has been to the sets of Jhalak Dikhala Ja, he is in a state of awe. The reason for this is none other than Madhuri Dixit and her beauty which is beyond definition. Ritesh met Madhuri on the sets and can’t stop going ga-ga about her.

Blame it on a Mrityudand, this image of a feminist up in arms. Fighting for her rights as a woman. Determined to take a stand, a step forward. But the Madhuri you face over a glass of khus sherbet one late muggy evening, on the eve of her birth-day, is a far cry from the fiery Ketki. Dressed in a white chikan salwar kurta, her face clear of all traces of Estelle Lauder, Madhuri looks like a dream chasing after dreams. A la Pooja of Dil to Pagal Hai. You can sense a surprising empathy with Yash Chopra's dreamy romantic as she candidly confess that like pooja she too is waiting for her dream lover. "I know someone somewhere is waiting for me," she says with quiet insistence.

You can’t be in showbiz and not be visible – but that doesn’t apply to Madhuri Dixit. If she ruled the box office in her prime, the soaring TRPs of ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ now prove she is equally saleable when she is a mother of two and spends much of her time being a homemaker in the US. ‘We had been trying to get Madhuri as a judge for the past two seasons. She has been known as a dancing diva and who better could we have got for a show which is all about perfect dancing,’ Ajay Bhalwankar, programming head, Sony, told IANS.
